The Story of Joseph’s Dream

Joseph was one of twelve brothers, and his father, Jacob, loved him very much. Because of this, his brothers became jealous of him. One day, Joseph had a dream that made his brothers even angrier. He dreamed that he and his brothers were tying bundles of grain in a field. Suddenly, his bundle stood tall while his brothers’ bundles bowed down to it.

In addition to that, Joseph had another dream where the sun, moon, and eleven stars bowed before him. When he told his family, even his father questioned what the dream meant. These dreams were special because they were messages from God about Joseph’s future. Though Joseph’s brothers did not understand, God had big plans for him.

A Hat Craft to Remember Joseph’s Dream

To make this lesson more exciting, children can create a fun hat craft. Since Joseph received a beautiful coat from his father, this craft will remind kids of that special gift. Using paper, glue, and colorful markers, children can design their own patterned hats. This activity not only reinforces the story but also allows kids to express their creativity.

Joseph’s Dream Memory Verse Activity

One of the best ways to help kids remember the lesson is through a memory verse activity. A great verse to use for this lesson is Genesis 37:19 Here comes that dreamer. ‘Listen,’ he said, ‘I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.’”

For a fun activity, write the verse on index cards and mix them up. Then, have children work together to put the words in the correct order. Not only does this help with memorization, but it also encourages teamwork. Or you can download this already printed for you.

Another fun craft included in this product is a windsock craft. Kids can decorate a windsock with Joseph’s coat colors or images from his dreams. Then, when they hang it up at home, it will serve as a reminder that God has a special plan for each of us, just like He had for Joseph.

Dreamers Craft with Cotton Ball Clouds

This lesson also features a creative dreamers craft. In this activity, children will make a dream cloud by gluing cotton balls onto a paper cloud. Inside the cloud, they can write or draw what they dream about for the future. Not only does this activity connect Joseph’s dreams to their own lives, but it also helps them understand that God has a plan for them too.

DIY Paper Scrolls for Storytelling

Another great craft is making DIY paper scrolls. Kids can create their own ancient-style scrolls using brown paper bags or parchment paper. After that, they can write or draw key parts of Joseph’s Dream and then roll up their scrolls, tying them with string. Because this hands-on activity brings the story to life, it helps children remember Joseph’s journey even better.

Dream Journal Activity

Encouraging children to keep a dream journal can be a meaningful way to reflect on Joseph’s story. Provide small notebooks where they can write down their own dreams or what they believe God may be speaking to them through scripture. As a result, this can help children build faith and learn to listen to God in their own lives.

Storytelling with Puppets

Puppets make storytelling fun and interactive. Using paper bags, felt, or sock puppets, children can create characters from Joseph’s Dream and act out the story. Since this activity allows them to engage with the lesson in a new and exciting way, it makes the story even more memorable.

Discussion Questions

To help children think more deeply about Joseph’s Dream, consider asking these discussion questions:

  1. Why do you think Joseph’s brothers were jealous of him?
  2. What do you think Joseph’s dreams meant?
  3. How do you feel knowing that God has a special plan for you?
  4. Have you ever had a dream that felt important? What do you think it meant?
  5. How can we trust God when things don’t go the way we expect?

Conclusion: Trusting God Like Joseph

Joseph’s Dream teaches us to trust in God’s plan, even when we don’t understand it. Through storytelling, crafts, memory verse activities, and prayers, children will have a deeper understanding of how God works in our lives. With fun hands-on activities like the hat craft, windsock, dreamers cloud, scrolls, and puppet storytelling, kids will remember this lesson for a long time. Just like Joseph, we can trust that God has a special purpose for each of us! Moreover, by participating in these activities, children will develop both their faith and their creativity.
